Amela (Amelanchier alnifolia) is a new Amelanchier (Saskatoon) cultivar bred at the Institute of Horticulture – Polish Research Institute of Horticulture in Skierniewice.

Grows moderately into a bush, develops rather a wide-spreading habit, older branches spread towards inter-row spaces under the weight of their fruits; produces quite many root shoots.

Blooms at the end of April and at the beginning of May, at a similar time as Northline.

Bears medium size ball-shaped fruits (0.7-1.0 g), which become 10-12 mm across are  navy blue or almost black in hue and covered with a waxy bloom, gathered in clusters containing as many as 10-15 berries; Amela’s fruits ripen quite evenly in clusters which makes harvesting easier; they do not drop off.

Enters into ripening moderately early, its fruits ripen usually at the beginning of July, several days after Northline

High yielding, enters the fruiting season quite early.

In the autumn of 2018, Amela was registered for research tests and entered into the register of protecting exclusive right of the Research Centre for Cultivar Testing (COBORU) in Słupia Wielka, Poland.
